Company Profile:

The Pagkahiusa sa mga Kapunungan sa mga Inahang Nagpakabana sa Bohol (PAGKAINA-Bohol), is a provincial women’s federation formed last September 25, 1993, a year after the feeding program in partnership with CARE-Philippines whose main objective was to reduce the dependency of the supplemental feeding resources of commodities from foreign donations and the phase-in of the indigenous feeding, self-reliant nutrition program for the malnourished children and to strengthen the rural women’s organizations through the capacity building and income-generating activities as well as their active involvement in the community development activities. The federation served as the umbrella organization of the rural women’s organization assisted by PROCESS-Bohol since 1992. Presently their are 17 member people’s organizations (POs) of PAGKAINA-Bohol. The federation as well as the 17 member organizations were registered with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and accredited by their respective Sannguniang Bayans and the Sanggunian Panlalawigan of Bohol where most of them became members of local special bodies. These organizations are located in 11 coastal municipalities in the coastal towns of Dauis, Panglao, Baclayon, Alburquerque, Lila, Dimiao, Garcia-Hernandez, Duero, Anda, Talibon, and Trinidad. It has a total membership of 698 of which are 492 are females and 206 are males. Their livelihood are varied such as fishing, fish and food vending, consumer store, broom production, natives and handicraft production, handmade paper making and converting, pastry production, palay and fertilizer trading, ihaw-ihaw, hog fattening and dispersal, banana and vegetable production, tableya making and microlending.

Thus, the objectives set were:

  • To strengthen the federation and member POs in mainstreaming gender equality and equity at the barangay, municipal and provincial levels
  • To increase the income of women and men member POs through sustained and enhanced livelihood projects and establishment of viable markets.

The PAGKAIN-Bohol and its member POs find means in identifying alternatives to uplift their socio-economic status. And this can be achieve through concerted efforts of the tripartite partnership of the POs, the government and the NGOs in capacitating the federation and the member POs as well as the communities to eliminate gender biases and enhance their economic conditions. The federation, have made moves to answer the needs of the member POs in the promotion and marketing of their products through scouting of prospect buyers/markets for their produce for their sustainability and for them to become a self-reliant. To mention some of their alternative sustainable enterprises are the natives and handicraft production, broom production, handmade paper making and converting, pastry production and tableya making. Products produced are bags, folder, ID frames/holders, mats, hats, boxes, wine holders, place mats, ropes, crucifix, maps, lampshades, flower vase, brooms (for cobwebs, floor, and car); handmade paper products such as photo frames, gift bags, boxes, plain sheets; and food such as pastry products, peanut butter and tableya.
